‘Tres Trapi’ means Three Steps in Spanish. The official languages of the island are Dutch and Papiamento – but most locals also speak English and French. You’ll find it fairly easy to get around the island if you speak either English or French, (even all the menus are in English or Spanish!). Most of the resorts had everything labeled in English as well.
A few things to know before you get to Aruba that will make it easier to find Tres Trapi.
1. The island is only 70 square miles. Teeny tiny! (Getting supplies on the island is very expensive because of this.)
2. ‘Cash is king.’ – What our Airbnb host told us the second we got there. Have cash on hand for any and all purchases. A lot of places take credit cards but unless you have a travel rewards card the conversion and overseas fees can be a lot.
3. You can drink the water in Aruba! We packed reusable water bottles and filled up all over the island.

How to Get To get Around the Island

If you’re looking for an easy way to get around the island – we loved renting an ATV for the day! Our Airbnb host Sharon recommended it instead of renting a car and we couldn’t have been happier that we did! There were a lot of things we did that we couldn’t have done with a car. (The best part was driving on the beach in non restricted areas!)
If you’re not up to renting a car or an ATV – there are a ton of local cabs that are willing to be flagged down. We were there for a week and where we didn’t walk to – we just flagged down a cab.
How To Find Tres Trapi
This is a google map if you want to just wander and find it on your own. ( This is just as fun if you have the time tbh!) For a more detailed explanation, keep scrolling and get prepared to download the best offline map app!
The best way I can describe the area around Tres Trapi is a neighborhood nestled in between resorts. It’s not hard to get to but it does require a little walking. This should be no trouble if you’re the adventurous type!!
If you’re not in the mood to wander – here are the exact steps to find Tres Trapi Beach.. { Most consider renting a car or an ATV. }

1. Download the Maps.Me App (Only available on iPhone and Ipad.) Or visit the Maps.Me Online Version.
2. Download the Aruba city guide.
3. Type in ‘Tres Trapi’ and save the location to My Places.
4. If you’re ready to go – click the Tres Trapi Pin and then click ‘Route-To’. You can choose walking or driving directions! They are incredibly accurate as well. I almost would’ve thought we had an online map.
When you get to the area… you’re probably gonna think – Where’s the beach? Remember that Tres Trapi Beach is more of a cove. There isn’t a lot of sand or places to layout – it’s just a crystal clear cove that has amazing snorkeling! (We didn’t snorkel on this part of the island because we wanted to do the shipwrecks! – More on that later!)
This is what you’re going to see in the area!! A rocky shoreline and very hidden steps! (The picture of Ev an I is a little blurry because the tide was coming in and the waves were hitting us! Such a great memory though!)

The shoreline is rocky on quite a bit of the island – I’d highly recommend water shoes for this portion of the day exploring! Even getting up to the steps (soft with time) hurt my feet!
Where to Stay

We went to Aruba for our honeymoon and we couldn’t have asked for a better stay. To book our Airbnb for your trip – click here!
We’re big fans of Airbnbs in general so it was a pleasant surprise to find that Aruba had so many nice Airbnb’s. Available for every budget and supporting the local economy are what we typically look for. The place we rented in was awesome! When looking for an AirBnb – major considerations are the proximity to attractions, what reviewers say about the host, and the stay itself. All of these have wifi, comfortable beds, and great reviews.
Sharon brought us empanadas for breakfast and completely mapped out a great day for us with the ATV’s on the island. You don’t find that kind of treatment in the larger resorts!! Click here to book our little condo!

Tres trapi is stunning! I also appreciate the tips about cash and the drinking water. It’s so interesting given all the cultural influences too 🙂

Lisa at Following the RiveraThat’s what we thought too! The city has so many cute dutch influences that were totally unexpected and made our trip great!!

The stone steps at the beach look really interesting. Having gone nowhere this year so far I could really use somewhere tropical once before winter kicks in soon.

RyanThey’re a little sharp so I suggest water shoes – but apparently it’s also an amazing place to snorkel! We could use a beach vacay too.
